A Message from the Dean

Tēnā koutou kātoa

I extend a very warm welcome to our new and returning students and to our staff who are back at work following the summer break. The year is off to a busy start and I am very much looking forward to working with everyone to achieve our goals this year.

Amongst other things, 2013 will see us continuing full steam ahead with implementation of the Curriculum Master Plan and further action on the social accountability agenda. We aspire to be a socially accountable medical school: this has implications for staff and students. For our medial curriculum it means we aim for each of our graduates to have the knowledge, skills, aptitudes and values to develop into an excellent health professional; to have a strong sense of accountability and of justice which will apply to patients, the community and to wider society; and to have a commitment to life long learning and professional renewal.

In achieving our goals, we will continue to work closely with our colleagues in the health sector and our numerous friends and supporters in communities around New Zealand.

I wish everyone a happy start to the year.

Peter Crampton
Dean, Faculty of Medicine
