AMC Accreditation

The Faculty of Medicine holds accreditation of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB) degree with the Australian Medical Council (AMC) from January 2009 until December 2018.  (This is subject to a satisfactory progress report in 2013 in accordance with standard accreditation procedures.  Periodic reports are also provided to the AMC).  The AMC undertakes accreditation of all medical student teaching programmes on a regular basis for all medical schools in Australia and New Zealand.

The 2012 periodic report to the AMC was submitted on 8 May 2012 as part of the AMC on-going requirements for accreditation.  The Otago AMC Periodic Report May 2012 can be viewed by staff and students only.

The 2011 periodic report to the AMC was submitted on 21 April 2011 as part of the AMC on-going requirements for accreditation. The Otago AMC Periodic Report April 2011 can be viewed by staff and students only.

The 2010 periodic report to the AMC was submitted on 22 March  2010 as part of the AMC on-going requirements for accreditation. The Otago AMC Report March 2010 can be viewed by staff and students only.

The Medical School Accreditation Committee of the AMC (MEDSAC) met in May 2010 to consider reports on Accreditation status for individual medical schools.  The March 2010 Periodic Report from Otago was reviewed. The Report was well received, and the Faculty has been informed that it continues to make very good progress with its curriculum activities.  Further Progress reports will be required by AMC in the third and fifth years of the current accreditation cycle in accordance with standard procedures.

The last accreditation assessment for the University of Otago Faculty of Medicine was in August 2008.  The submission from the Faculty was prepared in accordance with the very extensive AMC Guidelines for preparing submissions. It contains a large amount of very useful information in relation to our curriculum in medicine, and the activities and structures of our four Schools, the Faculty of Medicine, and the University.
